Liz Smith, Scottish Conservative MSP for Mid Scotland & Fife has called on the Scottish Government to call in the proposals for a major housing development on the old Kinross High School site.
The application is set to come before the Council Development Management Committee in April. To date there have been 130 objections with the Community Council and many other local Kinross organisations and groups opposing the development.
Liz Smith, Scottish Conservative MSP for Mid Scotland & Fife said:
“It is clear that there are growing concerns over this proposed development which would potentially see 102 new houses built in the centre of Kinross. Under the local plan the site has been earmarked to allow for 70 homes on the site.
“The current proposed development has attracting wide spread concern from many local residents, organisations, and groups in Kinross from the Community Council to the Kinross-shire Civic Trust. Local democracy is all about local communities having their voice heard and for these concerns to be listened to and acted upon.
“The proposed development represents a departure from the local development plan and goes against a number of local development plan policies.
“Concerns have been expressed regarding the insufficient number of parking spaces, the changes to the proposed lay out of the development and the fact that the development will put the local primary school over capacity.
“If the application is given consent Perth & Kinross Council could benefit significantly from the sale of the site to the tune of £3.5 million.
“I have written to Derek Mackay MSP, Minister for Local Government and Planning calling on the Scottish Government to call in the application.”
