Liz Smith, Scottish Conservative MSP for Mid Scotland & Fife has called on Network Rail to delay engineering works on Scottish Cup final day.
Liz Smith, Scottish Conservative MSP for Mid Scotland & Fife said:
“Everyone accepts that on-going maintenance works on the rail network are necessary. However, in this case with up to 40,000 St Johnstone and Dundee United fans traveling to the cup final in Glasgow I would have hoped that Network Rail would look to delay the works.
“It is vital that Network Rail and ScotRail enter into discussions and look to delay the engineering works on Scottish Cup final day.
“The ScotRail franchise is currently up for renewal and one part of the Scottish Ministers have already said that they expect the new franchises to address the number one policy objective: Focus on passengers, providing better services and enhancing resilience and operational effectiveness.
“I have contacted both Network Rail and ScotRail asking for a delay to the works and have also raised this with SNP Transport Minister, Keith Brown.
“May 17th is going to be a big day for all St Johnstone fans and I would hope that one days delay to engineering works would be provided to make sure that fans can travel to Glasgow without major disruption.”
