Liz Smith, Scottish Conservative MSP for Mid Scotland & Fife has called a public meeting on cuts out-of-hours GP services at Perth Royal Infirmary. The meeting will take place on Monday 28th September at the Strathearn Artspace, Crieff, 5.30pm – 7.00pm
Liz Smith, Scottish Conservative MSP for Mid Scotland & Fife said:
“Following the recent decision by NHS Tayside to cut out-of-hours GP services at Perth Royal Infirmary, and subsequent constituents’ concerns, I have arranged a public meeting to provide a forum for local residents to discuss their concerns.
“The withdrawal of the GP service will now see no cover overnight or at weekends for people suffering minor injuries or illnesses which will require patients to make the journey to Ninewells in Dundee.
“Perth & Kinross has one of Scotland’s fastest growing populations and yet time and again we have seen the provision of key health services focussed at Ninewells. Local people are clear that they want to see Perth Royal Infirmary as their primary hospital yet this has been constantly undermined by the removal of services from PRI including the maternity ward, paediatrics, pathology, weekend surgery and now weekend out of hours GP services.
“I know that many local residents have expressed concerns at the cuts to out-of-hours GP services from Perth Royal Infirmary and how this will impact on local health services. I have called a public meeting on Monday 28th September at the Strathearn Artspace, Crieff at 5.30pm – 7.00pm and I am pleased that NHS Tayside have agreed to come and answer questions and listen to local residents concerns.”
