Liz Smith, Scottish Conservative MSP for Mid Scotland & Fife has called on the Scottish Government to publish flood inspection statistics Nationally.
The call comes after an internal audit report revealed that Perth & Kinross Council only checked the river’s flood defences once every year from 2009 to 2012 after it stated inspections would be carried out once a month.
Liz Smith, Scottish Conservative MSP for Mid Scotland & Fife said:
“The internal audit report revealed that Perth & Kinross Council only checked the river’s flood defences once every year from 2009 to 2012 after it stated inspections would be carried out once a month.
“It is clear that in the case of the Water of Ruchill in Comrie inspections where not being undertaken on a regular basis suggested.
“I do not believe that this was a one of case and I have concerns that many other flood prone stretches of rivers and burns in Perth & Kinross can across Scotland are not being properly monitored.
“The National publication of flood inspection reports on a monthly bases would provide I believe a more transparent way of monitoring the vital inspection process.
“I have written to SNP Environment Minister, Dr Aileen McLeod MSP to ask what assurances the Scottish Government been given whether or not other flood prone stretches of rivers and burns across Scotland are being properly inspected on a regular basis and to call on Scottish Ministers to publish inspection information alongside Local Authorities.”
