Liz Smith, Scottish Conservative MSP for Mid Scotland & Fife has called on SNP Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing, Alex Neil MSP to commission an independent review of services at Murray Royal Hospital. The call follows concerns surrounding a patient who has gone missing from hospital for the seventh time in less than 12 months. In recent months it has found itself in the midst of bullying allegations and security breaches. Liz Smith, Scottish Conservative MSP for Mid Scotland & Fife said: “The fact that a vulnerable patient has gone missing from hospital for the seventh time in less than 12 months should clearly set alarm bells ringing in NHS Tayside. “Concerns have been expressed by medical and emergency services staff regarding the life threatening behaviour of the patient and I have sought answers from NHS Tayside into what steps have been taken to guarantee patient safety and also the safety of our emergency services. To date information on what action NHS Tayside has taken has not been forthcoming. “Concerns have been expressed by a number of elected representatives locally and within the Scottish Parliament regarding this individual case and I have therefore believe it is important that Scottish Minister who are ultimately responsible for health, provides a reassurance that services being delivered at Murray Royal Hospital are meeting the needs of some of our most vulnerable patients. “I have therefore written to Alex Neil MSP, SNP Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing, calling on the Scottish Government to commission an independent review of services at Murray Royal Hospital.”
