In a recent survey of Scottish Farmers, 72% have backed staying part of the UK according to the National Farm Research Unit.
Over 500 farmers were surveyed with nearly three-quarters backing the Union with only 10% backing separation, a result Murdo Fraser believes underlines the strength of feeling within the farming community for the United Kingdom.
Farming is central to the economy of many communities in Perth and Kinross, Fife and Stirling.
Although not eligible to vote in the referendum, 63% of the farmers from Northern Ireland, Wales and England said they would like to see Scotland remain part of the UK.
Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“It’s good to hear that the farming community in Scotland is backing the UK.
“Farming is central to the economy of Mid-Scotland and Fife and it is clear to see that the benefits offered by remaining part of the UK is resonating with the farming community.
“Farmers in Perth and Kinross, Fife and Stirling are astute businesspeople and they know that the rewards of remaining part of the UK far outstrip the uncertainty of independence, especially considering the unknown status of an independent Scotland’s EU membership.”
