The people of Perthshire will have the opportunity to learn more about the campaign to keep Scotland in the United Kingdom when local activists, including MSP Murdo Fraser, take to the streets in a mass leaflet drop.
With the independence referendum due to take place in little under two years, now is the perfect time to get involved and send a message to the separatists that we are stronger when we work together.
The leaflet drop in Perthshire is part of Better Together’s National Campaign Weekend. Over 250 events will be taking place in towns, villages and cities across Scotland.
The Better Together Campaign aims to deliver 1 million leaflets across Scotland this weekend.
Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“The battle to secure Scotland’s future has now begun in earnest. In 2014 we will make a decision that affects Scotland for hundreds of years and it is vital that everyone is well informed. This weekend, the people of Perth have the opportunity to learn a little more about the campaign and why I support the union.
“Companies and businesses in Perth and Kinross sell their goods right across the UK without any need to worry about barriers or borders. We have a single market that works, but the nationalists want to change it. It makes no sense. If we went down that road it would be bad for Perth and Kinross and bad for Scotland.
“We have spent 300 years building the most successful union in the world. The countries in the UK are like brothers and sisters. There are times when we don’t get on and there are times when we fall out. However, like all families we are better when we are together.”
Alistair Darling, the Chair of the Better Together Campaign said:
“I hope that the people of Perth take the opportunity to join our campaign this weekend. The only way that we can prevent the breakup of our country is if we join together and make our voices heard.
“I am fiercely proud of being Scottish, but I know that there is so much that is good about being part of the UK. We are better off together, we are more influential together and we are tied together in so many ways.
“The nationalists want us all to buy a ticket to a deeply uncertain destination. I don’t think that the majority of Scots want to break away from our friends, families and workmates from across the UK. They don’t want us to rip up 300 years of shared history and shared success and start all over again from scratch. I believe that the majority of Scots believe that we are better together.”
