Shadow Education Minister and Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP, Liz Smith, has met with modern apprentices at Perth leisure pool to learn more about their apprenticeships and on-site training.
The visit was arranged in collaboration with Skills Development Scotland who are running Modern Apprenticeship Week 2017 which is aimed at celebrating the benefits apprentices bring to businesses and the economy.
Over the course of the week Skills Development Scotland are running hundreds of different events across Scotland.
Perth Leisure Pool opened its doors in 1988 and boasts training water, leisure water, flumes, a gym and a health suite.
Commenting Liz Smith MSP said:
“It was great to meet both the staff and Modern Apprentices at Perth leisure pool. Modern apprenticeships are crucial in providing training opportunities for young people and the ones offered at Perth leisure pool are vital in ensuring the next generation have the right skills.
“Ensuring that there are opportunities for young people in the leisure, health and tourism sector is very important and we have been vocal in the Scottish Parliament about the need to provide youngsters with positive options after school.
“Modern apprentices are a legitimate alternate to university and college and the Scottish Government must work hard to promote them to young people of all backgrounds and skills.”
