This is the time of year when we look back and reflect on the year just past. 2015 has been a year of hope but it has also included some very difficult times. The terrorist atrocities in Tunisia and Paris once again brought home that we live in a complex and dangerous world. However, like so much in life, the last year has also shown the best of what mankind can achieve – Tim Peake’s mission to the International Space Station being one such extraordinary achievement.
2016 is the year in which Scotland’s achievements in innovation, architecture, and design will be showcased and celebrated with a programme of activities aimed at helping to raise the international profile of the country’s important industries and help grow our tourism and events sector. From cutting-edge technology to textiles, architecture and craft, Scotland boasts an outstanding heritage and contemporary practice which continues to inspire audiences across the globe.
I know that the closure of the Forth Road Bridge has caused significant disruption for residents across Mid Scotland & Fife and, along with other MSP colleagues, I have been working to hold the Scottish Government to account to get the bridge re-opened as soon as possible and to ensure works surrounding the new bridge limit any disruption for commuters and businesses.
At this time of year our thoughts go out to all those who can’t be with their loved ones, perhaps because of illness or duties in far-away places. In particular, I would like to send my very best wishes to all those who have family or friends in the UK armed forces. We salute them and their loved ones for the sacrifice they are making to keep us all safe.
I warmly thank, and pay tribute to, all those who work in our public services for the support and help they deliver and for the positive impact they make on so many lives and the service they give to the local community.
Whatever you have planned for the holidays, I hope you enjoy spending time with family and friends and that your festive celebrations are happy and relaxing. As well as being a time for looking forward, this time of year is also a period for reflection. Again, I wish you and all your family and friends a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
As always, please don’t hesitate to get in touch if I can help you with any problems, address any issues or answer any questions, I’m always happy to help.
