Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser has praised Blairgowrie’s hosting of the Junior Ryder Cup, calling the tournament a “phenomenal success.”
The Scottish Conservative MSP who is a member of the Parliament’s Cross Party Group on Golf, visited the tournament on Monday and was extremely impressed with the number of spectators both young and old in attendance.
Unfortunately, Europe could not reverse the deficit from the first day of competition and were beaten in the singles which confirmed defeat to the USA and their fourth consecutive loss. Local Lad and British Amateur Champion Bradley Neil, won 1.5 points from 3 in the two days of match play.
Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“Blairgowrie has been a buzz thanks to the Junior Ryder Cup and thousands of spectators have attended the competition over the past two days.
“The staff at Blairgowrie Golf Club have done a fantastic job in making sure the course and the facilities were of the highest standard which gave the event a real professional feel.
“The whole competition has been a phenomenal success and the thousands of school children who got their first taste of golf will hopefully be inspired to take up the game.
“Despite losing out to the Americans, Team Europe and Blairgowrie’s home town lad, Bradley Neil, can be proud of their achievements.”
