Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser has expressed his sympathy for workers at the ‘2 Sisters’ poultry processing plant and has called for greater clarity surrounding its future.
Just five months after the ‘2 Sisters’ takeover of the Coupar Angus plant, 200 jobs are set to go in business restructuring measures aimed at returning the business to profit.
The company has begun a 45-day consultation and expects to cut the workforce in the New Year.
Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“It is very disappointing to see substantial job losses so soon after the initial ‘2 Sisters’ buyout.
“The impact to families and the local economy will be substantial and the Scottish Government must help prepare the soon to be redundant workers with the help they need to find another job.
“Poultry processing has a long history at this plant and I would hope that it has a viable long term future. I would urge the Scottish Government to do all in their power to help mitigate against further job losses.”
