Today, on the day that the Scottish Parliament debated Scotland’s tourism industry with a debate on ‘The Future of Tourism in Scotland’, Mid-Scotland and Fife Conservative MSP Murdo Fraser called on VisitScotland and the Scottish Government to do more to promote Perthshire’s tourism industry. Murdo Fraser said: “Tourism is Scotland’s biggest industry and that is certainly the case in the Mid Scotland and Fife Region which I represent. In Perthshire, tourism is by far the largest employer and if we are to see a strong economy in rural areas then we do have to ensure growth in tourism. “The future of tourism in Scotland will be successful if we promote the best and that is why I want VisitScotland and the Scottish Government doing all that it can to promote Perthshire. “I believe that Perthshire is one of the most beautiful and scenic parts of the United Kingdom and is home to some of the best events in Scotland. Perthshire also has some of the best attractions in Scotland for tourists, such as the Queen’s View, whisky distilleries, the Big Tree Country, famous cathedrals and castles, world-renowned fishing grounds and outstanding natural scenery. It is clear that Perthshire is an asset to the United Kingdom and it should be marketed to the rest of the world as one of the best places for a holiday. “With the summer tourism season fast approaching, our local tourism operators must be heard at the top of the industry in order for local needs to be met and local opportunities to be developed.”
