Liz Smith, Scottish Conservative MSP for Mid Scotland & Fife has expressed her concern at the impact the closure of the Forth Road Bridge will have on the Perthshire economy.
Liz Smith MSP said:
“The closure of the Forth Road Bridge until the New Year is a very serious matter which will cause huge disruption to the 70,000 commuters who use the bridge every day but also the major impact this is likely to have on the economy of the north of Scotland.
“MSPs where originally told the bridge would only be closed for a few days and although safety is absolutely paramount it is vital that all steps are taken to limit disruption.
“It is concerning that the Forth Road Bridge structural problems have not been detected earlier and I know that there is growing anger at the fact that SNP Ministers have been keeping MSPs and local residents in the dark over this period. Questions must be asked about how the regular inspection process did not discovered the defective steelwork earlier.”
