Three of Fife’s popular beaches have lost their Blue Flag status. Kinghorn (Pettycur), Elie Harbour and Leven. The three remaining Blue Flag beaches in Scotland were Aberdour Silver Sands, Burntisland and Elie Ruby Bay, all in Fife.Liz Smith, Scottish Conservative MSP for Mid Scotland & Fife said:
"I know that the local communities are hugely disappointed that Kinghorn, Elie Harbour and Leven have lost their Blue Flag status.“It would seem that those beaches applying for the award this year have faced even stricter global water quality standard."It is vital that we send out a clear message that all these beaches still have some of the highest water quality in Scotland and are first class for visitors. “The local economy depends heavily on tourism and the removal of Blue Flag status this season must not put visitors off from coming to enjoy the East Neuk and North East of Fife.“It is also important to remember that the three remaining Blue Flag beaches in Scotland are all in Fife as Aberdour Silver Sands, Burntisland and Elie Ruby Bay.”
