Although increasing, life expectancy for men in Fife is falling behind other areas in Scotland.
Between 2000 and 2002 Fife was ranked 14th out of 32 Scottish local authorities for male life expectancy, however between 2010 and 2012 this had slipped to 21st.
Life expectancy in Fife for men is 77 years old, just above the Scottish average of 76.6.
Commenting Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser said:
“Whilst it is good to see life expectancy for men in Fife remain above the national average it is concerning to see a 5 place slip in our national ranking from five years ago.
“Residents in Fife, particularly men, should continue to exercise and eat well as maintaining a healthy lifestyle is crucial to living longer.
“Other areas of Scotland are overtaking Fife and the Scottish government must offer the right support to arrest this decline and ensure it doesn’t become a long term trend.”
