Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser has called on a SNP MP to clarify his stance on wind farms, after a confused outburst.
Pete Wishart MP has claimed that Murdo Fraser MSP has an 'obsession' with wind power.
However, controversially Mr Wishart once stated at a public meeting in Dunkeld that wind farms have no place in Highland Perthshire, despite this the SNP Government that he supports has given consent to massive wind developments at Griffin and Calliacher in the face of huge public opposition, including from the local SNP-run Perth & Kinross Council.
Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“I was confused reading Pete Wishart's rambling comments on wind farm community payments, which suggested that he was now an enthusiast for large turbine developments in the Perth and North Perthshire constituency.
“It was only a few years ago that the self-same Pete Wishart declared to a public meeting in Dunkeld that ‘wind farms have no place in Highland Perthshire,’. Either his opinion has changed or he was trying to mislead the people of Perthshire, whilst privately toeing the SNP party line.
“Let’s not forget that the SNP government, which he supports, have railroaded the construction of massive wind farms at Griffin and Calliacher, despite huge local opposition.”
“Mr Wishart needs to realise that he is elected to represent the views of his constituents. As we have seen with the recent court closures, SNP backbenchers are happy to put the aims of their Government above the needs of their local voters. Mr Wishart appears to be happy to count himself as a member of this sorry band."
