Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser has expressed concern over the rebranding and possible closure of Dunfermline Building Society branches.
Nationwide, who rescued Dunfermline in 2009 plan to convert approximately half of their 91 Dunfermline, Cheshire and Derbyshire branches, however as yet there are no details on how many of the 32 Dunfermline branches will remain open.
The Conservative MSP has also expressed concern over potential staff redundancies and the impact a reduced branch network will have on the communities they serve.
Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“As yet we have no specific information on the exact number of branch closures, but we can assume that some Dunfermline branches will be affected.
“Whilst I recognise the role Nationwide have played since their takeover in 2009, this news is concerning for the employees of Dunfermline branches and the communities they serve.
“Dunfermline has been a trusted name on the high street since 1869 and it will be a sad day when their presence is no longer visible.
“Nationwide, must ensure that their long term plans are in the best interests of both the customer and their employees and I would urge them to keep as many branches open as possible.”
