Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser has expressed concern over fuel provision in Highland Perthshire after the announcement that Aberfeldy petrol station will be closing for nearly 3 months due to renovations.
The Co-operative is relocating its existing food outlet from Aberfeldy town centre to the petrol station as part of a £700,000 overhaul of the site.
The Co-op have advised the closest filling station at Ballinluig of the refurbishment in order for them to increase their fuel stocks.
Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“For rural residents in and around Aberfeldy this closure represents a real inconvenience. Fuel suppliers across the region will experience greater traffic which could lead to delays and stretched resources.
“Rural petrol stations are disappearing fast and this closure will result in the area becoming a fuel desert and I would hope that local Councillors are kept informed as to the timetable of the refurbishment.
“Ultimately, the renovation of the forecourt and accompanying store is good news for Aberfeldy, however the removal of the petrol station for nearly 3 months will have definite economic consequences for the area.”
