From April 2015, lifeboat, search and rescue and air ambulance charities will be eligible to apply for a VAT refund. Currently refunds are available, but only on fuel.
Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser has welcomed the move and hopes this tax rebate will allow the Charity Air Ambulance to continue to save lives.
Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“This VAT refund scheme will provide a much needed tax break to Scone’s Charity Air Ambulance and will allow the service to invest in staff and equipment. . I am fortunate enough to know some of those involved with the charity and am confident that they will welcome the Chancellor’s announcement.
“Since the SCAA started flying in 2013 it has helped save hundreds of lives and is a vital tool in ensuring remote areas have access to emergency treatment. The staff at the SCAA are incredibly hard working and perform an invaluable job and therefore deserve all the help they can get from Government.”
