Liz Smith, Scottish Conservative MSP has called on the Scottish Government and new rail operator Network Rail to investigate the possibility of the re-opening of local rail stations and has called for a new feasibility study to investigate the re-opening of stations including the potential re-opening of local stations at Bridge of Earn, Newburgh and Stanley.
Liz Smith, Scottish Conservative MSP said:
“In other parts of Scotland stations have been re-opened and investment made to once again connect communities to Scotland’s rail network.
“To date in North East Fife and Perthshire no such investment has been forthcoming by the Scottish Government and so questions must be asked why other communities are being re-connected to the rail network when others are not.
“I have written to the Transport Minister to ascertain what proposals there are for re-opening stations in Scotland.
“Like other parties, the Scottish Conservatives are currently working to develop our 2016 Holyrood manifesto and that is going to provide a great opportunity, ahead of the next National Strategic Transport Review, to look at communities which want once again to be connected to the rail network and plan the future investment which will be needed to realise this potential.”
