Pitlochry residents were given the chance to raise their questions about the forthcoming independence referendum on Thursday evening at a busy public meeting in the Town Hall.
Organised by the Better Together campaign, who support Scotland remaining part of the UK, the meeting was chaired by local Highland Ward Councillor Ian Campbell, and addressed by Willie Rennie MSP, leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrats, Jamie Glackin from Perth, Vice-Chair of the Scottish Labour Party, and Conservative MSP Murdo Fraser.
Questions were asked around a range of subjects, including women voters, HS2, the future of devolution, and fighting poverty.
Commenting after the meeting, Murdo Fraser said:
”It was good to see a large turnout in Pitlochry from local residents interested in the referendum in September.
“This will be the most important political question which most people in Scotland will face in their lifetimes, and it is essential that people are as well informed as possible about the implications of their vote.
“The Better Together campaign has a whole series of meetings arranged across the local area to spread the message as to why we believe Scotland is better remaining part of the United Kingdom. There will be many more such meetings in coming weeks, and in addition to this Better Together continues to campaign with street stalls, leaflet delivery and canvassing sessions.
“We believe we are winning the arguments and are confident that most people in Scotland will vote to remain part of the UK in September, but we are taking nothing for granted.”
