Perth City North resident Aziz Rehman has been selected to stand for the Scottish Conservatives for Perth City North ward at the elections to Perth and Kinross Council which will be held in May this year. Aziz lives with his family in the ward and is vice-chairman of the Perth Welfare Society. Along with his son, Aziz runs the family's Must Eat takeaways in Perth and Aberfeldy.
Commenting on his selection, Aziz said,
"I am honoured to have the opportunity to stand for election in May this year. Since March 2020 our communities have suffered hugely as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. We know that there are many who have lost their jobs or who suffered from the effects of isolation on their mental health. We need to look at improving opportunities for young people to plug any gaps in their learning as a result of learning at home and we need to look at the opportunities for creating jobs so that they can stay in Perth and not have to move away to find work.
"As a business person I want to see businesses in Perth flourish. We are ideally placed in the very centre of Scotland to attract new investment and, importantly, to do more to support the small businesses who are the lifeblood of Perth and Kinross. I also want to focus on the issues that will make the ward a better place in which to live - anti-social behaviour, littering, dog fouling, more bus shelters and other very local issues.
"Over the coming months I look forward to getting around Perth City North and meeting as many residents and community groups as possible. The future for Perth can be a really positive one and we need to grasp all the opportunities we can."
