Irish bus tour operator CIE Tours International has awarded Stirling Castle an “award of excellence” in its UK honours list , which adds to the August 2012 Which? consumer award that named the castle as the UK’s top heritage attraction.
The recognition was made official at an awards ceremony in Glasgow last week and it was the first year that CIE has made awards to UK-Based attractions.
The 12th century castle has witnessed some of the most turbulent moments in Scottish history and today is a must see tourist destination.
Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser believes that recent renovations have greatly improved the tourist appeal of the site.
The Conservative MSP who is also Convenor of the Scottish Parliament’s Economy, Energy and Tourism Committee added that the castle represents a focal point for visitors coming to the town.

“Those working at Stirling castle will be rightly proud of another fantastic achievement. To be singled out twice in a year goes to show what a great job those involved with the attraction are doing.
“Historic Scotland have worked hard to enhance the visitor experience at Stirling Castle and this award is vindication for their efforts.
“Tourism is integral to the Stirlingshire economy, and this award boosts the areas reputation as a place to visit.
“In recent years Historic Scotland has strived to give visitors memorable experiences and Stirling Castle is one of many in an exciting portfolio.
“Visually the castle remains a focal point for those coming to visit Stirling, and accolades such as this will ensure that the attraction remains among Historic Scotland’s most visited sites.”
