Perth residents Andy Chan and Calum Milne have been selected by the Scottish Conservatives to contest the Perth City South Ward at the elections to be held in May this year.
Both Andy and Calum were born and bred in the local area and are committed to doing all they can to ensure there is strong representation for Perth City South on Perth and Kinross Council.
Andy Chan said,
“As a former pupil of Craigie Primary and Perth High School and running my family takeaway in Glengarry Road, I know Perth City South and the communities which make this such a great place in which to live and work. I am delighted to have the opportunity to stand for election in May. I run my business locally and I am involved in lots of local community groups. I am chairman of the Perth Chinese Association and a former chairman of PKAVS. Throughout the pandemic our communities really came together. We saw so much great community spirit with people working together. We have also seen some of the real challenges faced by residents who struggle with their health. Also, those on low incomes as well as young people who have all really felt isolated through the lockdowns and are looking to us to create new opportunities for them.
“Perth is a fantastic place in which to live and work. It’s at the heart of Scotland and we need to grab every opportunity to bring jobs and prosperity to the city.
“Over the next few months, I will be speaking to local residents and businesses to hear their views on the issues that matter most in Perth City South.”
Calum Milne who lives in Oakbank attended Oakbank Primary and Perth High School. After leaving school Calum studied Hotel Management at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee. He had a career in hospitality, managing some of Britain’s finest hotels and, along with his teams, winning several prestigious awards in the hospitality sector.
Calum said,
“I am very proud of my roots in Perth City. The Fair City has so much to be positive about, and with major projects such as the redevelopment of the City Hall as a world-class tourist attraction, the Cross Tay Link Road set to improve infrastructure around the City and Perth and Kinross. Well placed to benefit from the staycation boom – we need to ensure we grab every opportunity. I want to see improved opportunities for young people to stay in Perth when they finish school, and for our city centre to thrive as a place for people to spend their leisure time. There is a lot to do, and I want to play my part in the rejuvenation of Perth post Covid.
“As a former Perth High School pupil, I am delighted to see the plans for the new school building and welcome this investment in our communities.
“I also want to ensure everyone has a voice in Perth and Kinross, and I have a particular interest in ensuring those with disabilities are represented and that we have a healthcare provision locally which is the very best possible.”
