Official Statistics have shown a 112% increase in NHS Fife and Forth Valley patients spending 8 hours or longer in A and E wards awaiting treatment.
Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser has labelled this a “disgrace” and has called on the Scottish Government to reverse the failings in Scotland’s A and E departments.
In 2013/14 662 patients waited 8 hours or longer for treatment whilst that number jumped to 1408 patients in 2014/15.
The SNP have failed to match health service investment south of the border and the Conservative MSP wants real action to reduce waiting times rather than more Scottish Government spin.
Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“We have just had 6 weeks of the SNP telling Scotland what a great job they have done in charge of our health service, even going so far to brand it NHSNP, but the reality on the ground is a whole lot different.
“Patients needing treatment in A and E departments across Fife and Forth Valley are waiting longer than ever.
“I can’t imagine the pain and frustration of waiting more than 12 hours in an emergency department but 61 people in Fife had that very experience last year, up a depressing 408% on the previous year.
“Doctors and nurses are working flat out across our hospitals and it is time the Scottish Government started equipping our NHS with the resources to properly serve patients. Patients and staff in Fife and Forth Valley deserve a whole lot better than this.”
