Andy Murray will be presented with the Freedom of Stirling and an honorary degree from the city’s university tomorrow.
In recognition of this, Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser has lodged a motion in the Scottish Parliament calling for MSP’s to support both events.
The British number one will become the fifth person in history to receive Stirling’s greatest civic honour.
Last year the Dunblane tennis star ended Britain’s wait for a Male Wimbledon champion and in 2012 won the Olympic title and US Open.
Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“Andy is a shining example of what can be achieved if you have the desire, determination and talent to make it work and should serve as an example to young people across Stirling.
“By ending our greatest sporting hoodoo, Andy not only had to beat the world’s number one player but did so with the weight of history on his shoulder, it was a truly remarkable achievement.
“I commend both Stirling University and the Council for having the foresight and wherewithal to recognise his achievements and reward him accordingly. Tomorrow will be a fantastic day for Stirling, the university and his hometown of Dunblane and I wish Andy all the best for the remainder of the season.”
