Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser has written to the Chairman of Visit Scotland to lobby for the inclusion of Doune Castle within the Outlander TV series tourist map.
Launched last week on the VisitScotland website the interactive map features Scottish sites included in the Outlander book series, but not Doune Castle which was the base for much of the first series.
The TV series based on the popular books was filmed in Scotland and aired its first two episodes on the US Starz network, with the second episode featuring prominent shots of Doune Castle.
Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“Film Tourism offers Scotland tremendous opportunities and I believe Visit Scotland are missing a trick in not promoting Doune Castle as it is a major film location in the Outlander TV series.
“Stirlingshire has many great attractions and I believe the additional buzz surrounding the Outlander series will attract even more people to the area, but only if promoted correctly.
“Tourists coming to Scotland after viewing the TV series will want to visit the locations they have seen on screen and in writing to Visit Scotland I am hopeful that they will reconsider Doune Castle’s place on the map and give it the promotion it deserves.”
