On the same day as contracts were awarded for the A9 dualling project between Glen Garry and the Pass of Birnam, the “Dual the A9” Facebook group reached over 16,000 likes.
The page was originally set up in the summer of 2013 to provide an interactive forum for those who had signed the dual the A9 online petition (which in itself has attracted over 21,000 signatures).
There have been 25 accidents since May on the A9 and Murdo Fraser believes this should act as a spur for the Scottish Government to hasten the pace of dualling.
Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“It is testament to the national significance of the Dual the A9 campaign that the Facebook page has surpassed 16,000 likes.
“This milestone is also representative of a wider public desire to see the work completed as soon as feasibly possible.
“The group has members from all four corners of the UK as well as thousands of local signatures which underlines the huge level of community support for this project.
“Once again this summer we have witnessed far too many fatal accidents and I would urge as many people as possible to sign the petition and ‘like’ the page in order to send a clear message that we want this road dualled as quickly as possible.”
