Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser has welcomed the return of an NHS contract to a well-respected Dunfermline hair salon, ‘Sheds’.
Despite outcry from local patients ‘Sheds’ had their NHS procurement contract to provide wigs to cancer sufferers removed due to an access issue at their Dunfermline premises.
The fitting of a new stair lift and lighting fixtures has helped return the NHS contract.
The NHS will inspect the salon next week with the intention of re-instating the service the following week.
Campaigners to have the contract reinstated have praised the attentiveness of salon owner Douglas Barr, calling his service “exceptional.”
Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“Common sense has prevailed and ‘Sheds’ have rightfully had their contract reinstated.
“In what is often a cancer sufferer’s lowest ebb, ‘Sheds’ provide a thoroughly worthwhile service that is conducted with the upmost care and respect.
“Employees of Sheds manage to transform what is often an upsetting process into an ego-boosting one for the individual patient.
“This is a victory for the local people who have petitioned their MSP’s and have managed to return a vital service back to Dunfermline.”
