Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser has welcomed the news that the OFT have rubberstamped the ‘2 Sisters’ takeover of the Vion poultry processing plant in Coupar Angus.
The future of Vion Coupar Angus was put in doubt in November when Dutch based Vion announced that they would be selling off their UK operations.
The Scottish Government will supply £7.5 million of grant funding to maintain the existing jobs in Scotland.
Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“I am very pleased to hear that the OFT has given the ‘2 Sisters’ takeover the go ahead, this is good news for Coupar Angus and for the 1000 workers employed at the plant.
“I know that many people from East Perthshire work at this particular plant and therefore it’s especially pleasing to see industry and jobs preserved.
“This takeover not only sustains the jobs of those directly employed at the plant but also maintains revenue for farmers in the corresponding supply chain.
“The stability and peace of mind brought by this move can only be good news for the local area and I will continue to work with the Scottish Government to ensure that the Highland Perthshire meat processing industry is given the correct support.”
