Long-time broadband campaigner and MSP for Mid-Scotland and Fife Murdo Fraser has welcomed news that ScotRail Express trains will offer free wifi by the end of December 2013.
Transport Scotland has committed £2million pounds to fund the installation of wifi equipment on all 59 of their ‘class 170’ trains.
This fleet operates in most of Scotland including the Fife and Stirling areas.
Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“I have supported and pushed for free wifi on ScotRail trains for many years.
“For Scotland to fully reap the benefits of being classed as a centre for business we must provide fast, accessible internet access on public transport.
“Moreover, passenger experiences on long trips will be improved substantially, with tourism also set to benefit.”
“Streaming films and TV programmes as well as keeping up to date with the latest news whilst on the move has become commonplace in modern society. Accessing these services will become substantially easier thanks to free wifi on ScotRail trains.
