Liz Smith, Scottish Conservative MSP for Mid Scotland & Fife Councillor Ann Cowan, Scottish Conservative Councillor Strathearn have expressed concern for the local economy in Crieff following news that the Royal Bank of Scotland has announced it is to close its branch in Crieff.

13.2% Have no Qualifications in Perth and North Perthshire

Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser has expressed concern that over 8,000 people in Perth and North Perthshire have no qualifications. Figures released by the Universities and Colleges Union detail a national average of 10.6% with no qualifications, however in Perth and North Perthshire the number lies well above this at 13.2%.

Budget Update for Perth and Kinross

 Cllr Mac Roberts, Leader of the Scottish Conservative Group on Perth and Kinross Council said that today’s budget, whilst starting out as four separate budget proposals had resulted in a meeting of minds which will deliver a good deal of the residents of Perth and Kinross.

Mountaineering Council of Scotland Questions Turbine Applications

Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser has backed comments from the Mountaineering Council of Scotland who have criticised speculative turbine applications and ill placed wind farms. The MCoS said that it was “completely wrong that companies can waste public time and money by putting forward grossly unsuitable applications of this kind”.

Report from legal experts shows independent Scotland would be completely separate state under international law

A new report from the UK Government has this week made clear that an independent Scotland would be regarded as a completely separate state under international law. Professors James Crawford and Alan Boyle, leading experts on international law, have produced a 58 page legal opinion which says the overwhelming weight of legal opinion makes clear the UK would be regarded by the international community as the ‘continuing state’.

High-Speed Broadband for Blairgowrie

Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser has welcomed news that Blairgowrie is set to benefit from superfast fibre-optic broadband connections by 2014. BT announced on Tuesday that 291,000 properties across Scotland will have their internet upgraded, taking the number of premises with access to fibre broadband in Scotland to around 1.45m.
