Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser has endorsed plans from VisitScotland to spend £3 million pounds on marketing and advertising highlighting Scotland as a destination to visit this autumn.
The government agency will use £400,000 of its budget encouraging people in Scotland to take day trips.
As convenor of the Scottish Parliament Committee on Economy, Energy and Tourism, the Conservative MSP believes this strategy will help boost an industry suffering this summer due to the London Olympics and poor weather.
Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“Tourism is integral to Scotland’s financial health and circumstances outwith our control have led to a challenging summer season.
“This latest campaign from VisitScotland aims to capitalise on the feel good atmosphere post-Olympics, as well as research that suggests up to three million Brits stayed at home during the Olympics.
“VisitScotland recognises the unique opportunities presented as we approach the autumn season. The release of Disney-Pixar’s Brave provides Scotland with unprecedented marketing opportunities and combining these with the staycation market could deliver a substantial boost to the sector.
“Whatever the weather, whatever the season visitors can be guaranteed a warm, friendly welcome in Scotland. Scotland offers some of the world’s most beautiful scenery as well as unmatched culture, history and outdoor activities.
“I will continue to work closely with VisitScotland to promote all that Scotland has to offer.”
