Liz Smith MSP has called on residents who are keen to see the re-opening of the Edinburgh to Perth direct rail link to get involved in a transport consultation aimed at shaping the future of Scotland’s railways.
This Thursday, Transport Scotland will open a consultation on the way in which it funds its services with the results informing the Scottish Ministers High Level Output team until March 2024.
According to the Government this consultation is a real opportunity for interested parties to help shape their approach to the specification and funding of future rail investment priorities.
Commenting Liz Smith MSP said:
“This consultation represents a real opportunity for people across the region to let the Government know exactly what they want from their transport services.
“Back in 2013 when I started my campaign to reinstate a direct rail link between Perth and Edinburgh I received an impassioned response from local people in South Perthshire and Kinross who were keen to see the return of a direct rail link.
“I would encourage these same people to make their voices heard at this consultation as it could help guide the strategic aims of transport policy until 2024.
“It was faster travelling to Perth from Edinburgh in the Victorian steam era than it is now and I believe a direct rail link could be central to ensuring the region’s future economic growth and for these reasons alone I want people to get involved.”
