A parliamentary motion has been lodged in the Scottish Parliament that praises 4th/6th (Stirling) Forth Valley Scout Group, ACE Cornton, Active Stirling Limited, Beat That, Ochil Explorers Adventure Club, Port of Menteith Village Hall and Plantlife International - The Wild Plant Conservation Charity for being awarded funding by the Big Lottery Fund earlier this year. Mid-Scotland & Fife MSP Murdo Fraser lodged the motion ‘Stirling Benefits from Big Lottery Fund’, which reads as follows: “That the Parliament welcomes the 42 awards, totalling £279,485, made by the Big Lottery Fund in May 2012 in the Mid-Scotland and Fife region; notes that the awards include funding for local charities and groups in the Stirling area, including the 4th/6th (Stirling) Forth Valley Scout Group, 8th Stirling (St Ninians) Company, ACE Cornton, Active Stirling Limited, Beat That, Ochil Explorers Adventure Club, Port of Menteith Village Hall and Plantlife International - The Wild Plant Conservation Charity; considers that these charities and groups make an important contribution in their local communities, and thanks the many individuals involved to achieve these awards for all the hard work and dedication.” MSP Murdo Fraser said: “It is welcome that charities and groups in and around Stirling have been awarded funding from the Big Lottery Fund, which will help projects and groups in our local area. “4th/ 6th (Stirling) Forth Valley Scout Group will be able to refurbish and purchase new equipment and 8th Stirling Boys Brigade will be able to provide a range of sporting and craft activities to boys aged 5-19. “It is welcome news that Active Stirling Limited will purchase new golf equipment and provide training, so as to expand the ClubGolf programme it currently runs for pupils in the Stirling local authority area. And Ochil Explorers Adventure Club, based in Raploch, will provide a series of outdoor activities such as canoeing and archery, for local young and older people. “The award to ACE Cornton will allow the group to undertake a range of activities and develop new education programmes based on the views of local groups and residents while Beat That, who are based in Stirling, will hold a programme of activities to celebrate the 21st anniversary of the group “Port of Menteith Village Hall will be able to purchase new and portable furniture for use in their community facility, allowing the local community to take part in a wider range of activities in the hall.
