The monthly ScotRail Performance Update has shown that several terminal stations in Mid-Scotland and Fife performed well below standard in December and January.
Trains were more likely to be late than on time when arriving at Aviemore and Markinch and over a fifth of trains fail to arrive on time at Perth, Stirling, Dunblane and Crianlarich.
The revelations follow the publication of a consumer report showing that ScotRail was awarded an overall satisfaction rating of only 51%, the lowest amongst all train operators in Scotland.
Commenting Liz Smith MSP said;
“These latest figures are a depressing indictment of the current state of our railways.
“For far too long ScotRail’s performance has been poor and it is up to the Scottish Government to sort out problems with the franchise.
“Commuters who rely on ScotRail services are being let down and it is unacceptable that trains are more likely to arrive late than early in Aviemore and Markinch.
“I have been calling for a direct rail link between Edinburgh and Perth and these statistics underline why this route is needed to alleviate pressure from the Fife circle.
“The SNP must get ScotRail back on track and that means ensuring customer satisfaction is up and more trains arrive on time.”
