Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP, Murdo Fraser, has lodged a motion in the Scottish Parliament praising the work of members of St John’s Episcopal Church in creating a welcome card for migrants currently living in Perth.
The card has the word “welcome” written in a number of different languages in the shape of a heart alongside the words “You are welcome here” and “Thank you for your contribution to the life of the community.”
Over 3000 cards have been produced for homes and businesses in Perth with many shops supporting the initiative. So far the motion has attracted cross-party support.
Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“At its core Perth has tremendous community spirit and is a welcoming place for people regardless of gender, race or religion.
“The welcome card initiative from members of St John’s church underlines the warmth and strength of our community spirit.
“In the wake of Britain’s decision to leave the EU we must reassure those migrants who have made Perth their home that they are welcome and valued. This card ticks both boxes and I hope that other communities across Perth and Kinross follow suit and produce a similar initiative.”
