Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP, Liz Smith, has criticised the approach of BEAR Scotland following another day of roads chaos on the M90 following planned maintenance.
The Conservative MSP wrote to BEAR Scotland in September to raise concerns over these planned works following similar delays last month- now the MSP wants answers as to why hold ups have been so bad despite having weeks to plan for them.
Motorists experienced tailbacks as far back as the Broxden roundabout as a result of the bridge and surface improvement works taking place on the Craigend Bridge.
Later this week travellers heading north will be hit with delays on the A9 near Dunkeld as a result of a two week resurfacing programme.
Commenting Liz Smith MSP said;
“I wrote to BEAR Scotland back in September as a result of lengthy delays relating to this planned work. Back then officials assured me that everything possible was being done to mitigate future delays; clearly they have not been successful.
“Motorists readily accept hold-ups when vital work is being undertaken, however it is now clear that the planning of BEAR Scotland has failed. This is not good enough for commuters and people travelling to Perth for work and leisure.
“This year motorists on the M90 have had to plan their journeys carefully as a result the new Forth Road Bridge and it is clear that drivers need detailed information in relation to possible delays. BEAR Scotland must do better in the coming weeks otherwise the Perth economy will feel the pain of people avoiding the city.”
