ISD Scotland statistics have revealed that NHS Fife and Forth Valley continue to experience lengthy delays in A and E as a result of the winter crisis.
These latest statistics have shown a slight upturn in performance for patients seen within in four hours but an increase in the number of patients waiting over 12 hours.
In NHS Fife 9 people waited 12 hours or longer with 52 experiencing a wait time of 8 hours or more, in Forth Valley the corresponding figures were 40 and 110 patients.
Liz Smith is urging anyone who hasn’t taken the flu vaccine to consider doing so.
Liz Smith MSP said:
“The start of 2018 has been tough for nurses and doctors and everyone is thankful for their hard work during this period of unprecedented demand.
“However, there is still a significant number of patients waiting over 8 and 12 hours respectively and that is concerning.
“The Scottish Government has had plenty of time to prepare for the inevitable winter crisis but once again have failed to equip our NHS with the resources to cope.
“It’s important that anyone who hasn’t had their flu jab consider doing so in order to ease demand.”
