Plans have been released for the design of a new £3.5 million arts hub to be housed in the now vacant St John’s Primary School in Perth city centre.
The new hub will see the old primary school regenerated into a centre for artists, creative industries, business incubation and community education. In addition to the new offices, café and arts space the old primary school playing ground will be transformed into a community garden.
Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP, Liz Smith, has welcomed the plans believing them to be just the right type of investment needed in the Fair City.
Commenting Liz Smith MSP said;
“These are exciting times for the Fair City, what with the transformation of city hall and the museum, and I believe the creation of an arts hub will increase the buzz around Perth.
“Taking old derelict buildings and putting them back into productive use is extremely important and I am pleased to see the Council making progress with these plans.
“The arts and creative industries have traditionally found a home in Dundee but the creation of this new hub will allow Perth to compete with its neighbour in attracting this type of business.”
