Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP, Murdo Fraser, has visited Dunfermline to meet with Jack Pryde, the town's most knowledgeable guide to learn more about Scotland’s ancient capital.
Discover Dunfermline offers tours around Dunfermline exploring the ancient 12th century Abbey, the shrine of St Margaret- Scotland’s only female saint- and the birthplace and heritage museum of the town’s most famous son, Andrew Carnegie.
Jack has lived in Dunfermline all of his life, even growing up in a house previously belonging to the Carnegie Trust, and has a wealth of knowledge about the city’s past and its important place in Scottish history.
Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“It was great to meet Jack and learn more about Dunfermline’s rich history. His tour is embellished with countless anecdotes and stories that aren’t in the usual guide books.
“Dunfermline is a perfect blend of history, heritage and stunning architecture but unfortunately is often overlooked by tourists visiting Scotland. Discover Dunfermline aims to redress this balance and offer visitors a unique insight into one of Scotland’s ancient capitals.
“I would encourage domestic and international tourists and even people from the area to take a tour with Discover Dunfermline to learn more about the real history of Scotland.
“Dunfermline has huge potential and it’s important that the heritage agencies and the Scottish Government work together to promote the locality and help drive town centre regeneration.”
