Murdo Fraser MSP has welcomed a “positive” response from Perth and Kinross Council regarding road safety, which will see a new pedestrian crossing installed in an area of Perth.

The move follows the Scottish Conservative politician writing to the Chief Executive of the Council following concerns being raised about the road safety of children living in the Scoonieburn/Friarton area of Perth.

Constituents living on Scoonieburn Hill and Edinburgh Road had contacted the Scottish Conservative politician to express their fears for children making their way to school.

Commenting, Mr Fraser said: “I very much welcome the positive response from Perth and Kinross Council to my letter to their Chief Executive. The residents raised their concerns for the safety of local school children who cross the road at the Craigclowan-Scoonieburn Hill junction in order to catch the bus to school.

“My constituents have told me that traffic exits from the M90/A912 and although the speed limit is 40mph, drivers frequently do not observe this, travelling at excessive speed along this stretch.”

Mr Fraser continued: “I therefore wrote to Perth and Kinross Council’s Chief Executive to ask what measures could be put in place to reduce traffic speeds and to safeguard the safety of children crossing the road at this point.

“I am pleased that the Council has said they will now install a pedestrian crossing in this area, following me raising the issue with them.”
