Murdo Fraser MSP has called on the SNP Government to help support those areas who have submitted bids for the UK City of Culture 2025 crown.
The Scottish Conservative politician would like details of what help will be provided to areas such as Mid Scotland and Fife, in terms of funding for cultural projects to boost the bids by the Tay Cities Region and Stirling.
Mr Fraser recently asked Jenny Gilruth MSP, Minister for Culture, Europe and International Development, how the Scottish Government will support the bids for the UK City of Culture 2025 but was disappointed at her answer.
Commenting, the MSP, who represents the Mid Scotland and Fife region, said: “The Minister said the Scottish Government will assist the areas that have submitted bids for the UK City of Culture 2025 but didn’t explain what this assistance will consist of.
“It would be very helpful to have some details of what funding will be made available for the likes of cultural projects in my constituency, which has two bids – one from the Tay Cities Region and one from Stirling.
“To be named UK City of Culture is a major achievement, and if it is either the Tay Cities Region or Stirling, it could well attract millions of people to the respective area. It is therefore important that the SNP Government provide as much support as they can to help in this process.”
