Murdo Fraser MSP again raises issue with parking problems at Ninewells Hospital with NHS Tayside bosses

Scottish Conservative MSP Murdo Fraser has again raised the problem of parking at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, with NHS Tayside officials.

He previously wrote to the health body back in December after being contacted by irate constituents who had encountered issues with parking at the hospital. This followed the ludicrous situation of one of his constituents who would have been faced with a five-hour all-round trip to Ninewells and back, which had been suggested by a ‘journey planner’ issued by NHS Tayside.

Commenting after a recent meeting with NHS Tayside Chief Executive and senior management, Mr Fraser said: “I raised again the issue of parking at Ninewells as it continues to be a problem for many of my constituents. I have had reports of individuals having to drive around the site for an hour in trying to find a space, and then worrying about missing vital appointments at the hospital.

“The problem also leads to hospital staff being frustrated as many patients blame this issue for always being late for appointments. The problem has definitely worsened in recent years.

“For constituents resident in rural Perth and Kinross there are simply not the viable public transport alternatives to using their cars to get to and from the hospital.”

Mr Fraser continued: “I was pleased to hear today from NHS Tayside that this issue is on their radar. The good news is that they have set up a working group to look at this problem, with possible options for both patients and staff.

“It is abundantly clear that the demand for spaces outweighs the number of spaces available, but I understand this is one of the issues being looked at by the NHS Tayside working group, so hopefully they will come up with a satisfactory solution for patients at Ninewells.”
