Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP, Murdo Fraser, has welcomed a new award from the UK Government aimed at celebrating the best high streets across the country.
The Great British High Street of the Year awards will run across the UK and will name winners across various categories in all four nations. Awards include 'Champion High Street' and 'Rising Star High Street' as well as an overall British High Street of the Year award.
Nominations can be submitted by local councillors, Business Improvement Districts (BIDs), Chambers of Commerce and Community Interest Companies.
A shortlist will be drawn up by independent judges and winners will be chosen by a combination of expert panel votes and a nationwide public vote.
Winning entries are eligible for a prize of up to £10,000 for their local community.
Entries close on 22nd August 2018.
Commenting, Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“Across Perth and Kinross, Fife, Stirling and Clackmannanshire there are a number of high streets that would be more than deserving of the overall title and the £10,000 prize and I am encouraging people across the region to get involved.
“If the Great British High Street is to survive then it will be thanks to ideas like this which can help promote all that is good about our town centres.
“Nominations can be made by councillors as well as local community and business groups and I would encourage residents across Mid-Scotland and Fife to get involved and nominate their town.
“The high street needs our support and improving its image will be important if we are to encourage people back to bricks and mortar retailing.”
