Liz Smith, Scottish Conservative MSP for Mid Scotland & Fife paid a visit to the Lady Haig Poppy Factory, Edinburgh to meet with representatives of Poppy Scotland and learn about the organisations year round preparations to provide the poppies and wreaths for memorial day. Poppy Scotland are also undertaking valuable work in schools and provide a great opportunity for Scottish schools to visit the factory in Edinburgh. The Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Education & Lifelong Learning toured the factory and met with many of the 37 ex-service men who work all year round to make the poppies and wreaths for memorial day. Liz Smith, Scottish Conservative MSP for Mid Scotland & Fife said:“I was delighted to visit the Lady Haig Poppy Factory in Edinburgh to meet with the ex-service men who work in the poppy factory and to meet with representatives of Poppy Scotland and learn about the organisations year round preparations that provide the poppies and wreaths for memorial day.“The Scottish Poppy Appeal raised over £2 million land year and, combined with other year-round fundraising helps the charity provide financial assistance to thousands of ex-servicemen and women as well as helping to fund specialist services such as long term care, housing and support service help ex-servicemen and women to overcome physical, emotional and financial difficulties.“Poppy Scotland also have a very successful schools visiting programme which provides the opportunity for school groups to tour the Lady Haig Poppy Factory to meet with veterans to learn at first hand their experiences of serving their country in the British Armed Forces.”
