Following another weekend of tailbacks and traffic congestion on the Broxden roundabout, Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP, Liz Smith has questioned the timing of roadworks from Bear Scotland.
Motorists were stuck in miles of queues over the weekend with cars sitting nose-to-tail between Craigend and the Broxden roundabout. In some instances, the traffic even stretched back to the Friarton Bridge and the M90 from Inverkeithing.
Liz has been critical of Bear Scotland in the past for not planning ahead when it comes to roadworks and believes that the transport agency should have anticipated these delays as a result of increased traffic from the Highland Show.
Bear Scotland have said that the roadworks were necessary to repair surfaces following the bad winter weather.
Commenting Liz Smith MSP said;
“Bear Scotland has questions to answer following another weekend of travel chaos in and around the Broxden roundabout.
“Whilst everyone acknowledges that these works are necessary, surely they can be planned better.
“Motorists were left sitting in mile long tailbacks and another weekend of travel misery will undoubtedly affect local businesses.
“Increased traffic from the Highland Show was a factor in busier roads but Bear Scotland should have anticipated this in advance.
“This is not the first time that motorists have experienced real frustration as a result of the Broxden roundabout and it is high time that the transport agencies worked together to ensure the least amount of disruption for travellers.”
