Mid-Scotland & Fife Conservative MSP Murdo Fraser and Carse of Gowrie Councillor Mac Roberts have welcomed the new link road between Inchyra and St Madoes, which will open to traffic this Wednesday 25th January. The new link road will also mean that the Inchyra level crossing of the Perth to Dundee railway line will be closed. Traffic will no longer to be able to access Inchyra from the A90 southbound. Perth & Kinross Council state that all traffic for Inchyra should leave the A90 at the St Madoes junction from where the new road will be signed via Maddoch Road. The closure of the level crossing and new road is the accumulation of 10 years of campaigning by local residents and assisted by MSP Murdo Fraser. The Mid Scotland & Fife Conservative member has been working since 2002 with Network Rail and Perth & Kinross Council to have the level crossing on the Inchyra road removed, and a new road constructed. Murdo Fraser said: “It is welcome news for residents in Inchyra and across Perthshire that we have finally seen the level crossing on the Inchyra road removed and a new road constructed to serve the community. “I want to congratulate Network Rail and Perth & Kinross Council for their long term commitment to this project. Despite the delays, it is extremely welcome to see this development, which will benefit all who use this road.” Cllr Mac Roberts said: “I would welcome feedback from local residents on the changes and it is important that the Council continue to listen to local residents so that the changes can bed-in effectively. “I know that this project is of a great deal of importance to the local community. The existence of the level crossing was both an inconvenience and a potential safety hazard, and the creation of the new road will allow for a safer and more convenient access to Inchyra village.”
