Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser has welcomed news that Blairgowrie is set to benefit from superfast fibre-optic broadband connections by 2014.
BT announced on Tuesday that 291,000 properties across Scotland will have their internet upgraded, taking the number of premises with access to fibre broadband in Scotland to around 1.45m.
Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“This is great news for the people of Blairgowrie. Fibre-optic broadband will enable businesses to flourish and allow residents to enjoy the latest internet technology in an instant.
“Residents in rural Perthshire suffer with some of the slowest internet connection speeds in Scotland and for every Blairgowrie resident set to benefit there will be a rural resident without access to even basic broadband.
“However, in the battle to provide Scotland with the best possible digital services this news is a step in the right direction and I will continue to press the Scottish Government to step-up their ‘Digital Ambition 2015’ efforts.”
