A public consultation on new private parking regulation is set to end this Friday and Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP, Murdo Fraser, is calling on members of the public to have their say before it’s too late.
Murdo is seeking to introduce new legislation at Holyrood that would curb the excesses of the Private Parking industry by creating an independent appeals service, capped fines, universal signage and clearer parking charge notices.
There is also a separate question on the introduction of “keeper liability” in order to simplify regulations across the UK.
Nearly 150 people and organisations have got in touch to respond and Murdo believes it’s important that parkers across the country make their point to help guide legislation.
The consultation will end on the 2nd of March, after this a summary of responses will be produced and hereafter Murdo will decide whether to continue with the bill drafting process.
Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“We are almost at the end of the consultation process and it’s important that anyone who wants to contribute does so before Friday.
“It’s important to stress that members of the public can submit responses completely anonymously and still play a full part in the consultation process.
“I have received hundreds of complaints from parkers about one particular private car park in Perth and I would call on people in the area to make their feelings clear about how they want rules to change.
“Following this consultation, an analysis of responses will be compiled and from here I will decide how best to proceed with new laws.
“This week is the last chance for parkers to have their say, it’s important that they do so.”
